The qualification provides professional development for those employed as teaching assistants who wish to progress to Higher Level Teaching Assistant status. It will provide learners with the knowledge and understanding when analysing and addressing the different challenges that classroom assistants are likely to encounter. Learners will also understand working with individuals and with small groups, as well as gaining essential insight into supporting pupils with special educational needs (SEN).

Learners are required to be working or volunteering within a school as a teaching assistant. We advise that learners obtain the Level 3 Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools, prior to commencing this qualification.

Learners will be assessment by a trainer assessor using a range of methods. This could include direct observation within the workplace, professional discussion, a portfolio of evidence and written assignments uploaded to an e-portfolio. The total minimum credit value needed to achieve the qualification is 65.
